NAOMI SHINODA

Naomi Shinoda began her piano studies at the age of 4. Under the guidance of Dr. Lam, she consistently won top awards in the NJMEA, NJMTA, Steinway Society, NJ Young Pianists, and Florence Boughton Young Artists competitions. Naomi attended Yale University, double majoring in molecular biology and music. After serving as a U.S. Peace Corps Volunteer in the Pacific island nation of Palau, Naomi attended Emory University to study epidemiology and obtained a Master of Science in Public Health in 2008. She began exploring the boundaries of world music with the Emory Indonesian Gamelan Ensemble, and later, with the Sumunar Indonesian Gamelan ensemble in Minneapolis, Minnesota.

After having spent four years as an Environmental Epidemiologist at the Minnesota Department of Health, Naomi has relocated back to the east coast to work as a Statistical Analyst with the nonprofit organization, Visiting Nurse Service of NY, and to continue playing Central Javanese gamelan music.
