CONNIE MAK
Connie began studying piano at age 5. She is currently enrolled at the University of Kansas, studying under Jack Winerock. Past teachers include Da Tsun Tse, So Han Yau, Joanna Li and Genevieve Wong. Connie has appeared as soloist twice with Grandmaster Youth Musicians Philharmonic Orchestra. She also gave performance in “Music Lives: Mozart’s 250th Anniversary Exhibition” organized by Pacific Place in 2006. She was chosen to perform Liszt Transcendental Etude No.4, Mazeppa in “The Transcendental Etudes Concert” in 2009 American Liszt Society National Festival. Also, she had the opportunity to perform in master classes for artists such as Gabriel Kwok, Sophia Gilmson, Christopher Harding, Zitta Zohar, Carine Gutlerner, Peter Collins, and Emilio del Rosario who hailed her as “A highly talented pianist”. Having strong interest for music, Connie has participated in various summer festivals in the past few summers including Summer Piano Festival held by Hong Kong Academy for Performing Arts, Indiana University Summer Piano Academy, Innsbrook Institute, International Academy of Music in St. Petersburg, Russia, International Institute for Young Musicians held in University of Kansas and she was invited to perform in a community hall in Kansas City, Missouri.
This summer, she is going to Bowdoin International Music Festival where she will study with Yong Hi Moon. Connie has performed at such venues as Hong Kong City Hall, Tsuen Wan City Hall, Tun Mun Town Hall, Kwai Ching Theatre, Lied Center of Kansas, and Composers Union Concert Hall in St. Petersburg, Russia. In 2006, Connie was selected to make a recording as a sample for the new high school Music syllabus for Hong Kong Education Bureau. She achieved third place in KMTA Freshman and Sophomore Collegiate Competition in November 2008. Apart from piano, Connie also plays violin. She is a member of University of Kansas Symphony Orchestra. Connie joined Mu Phi Epsilon International Music Fraternity in spring 2009.
